What Is Prolozone Therapy?
Prolozone Therapy is a non-surgical ligament or connective tissue injection of collagen-producing substances and ozone gas which can reconstruct or regenerate damaged or weakened ligaments and cartilage tissue in and around joints. The results include eliminating or drastically reducing chronic pain by facilitating the body’s own natural ability to heal itself and rebuilding new ligament and cartilage tissue in an area where they have become weak.
Understanding Our Body
Ligaments are the structural “rubber bands” in our body that hold our bones, joints, and intervertebral discs together – acting like the body’s shock absorbers. They can become weak or injured from an injury, excessive use, or surgery. Once the ligaments are weak or injured, they may not heal back to their original strength or tighten on their own to their original length.
When ligaments do not heal properly, our body puts an extra strain on the areas that the ligaments are supposed to be holding together. This strain results in pain and arthritis in the bones, discs, and joints. The pain is largely due to the blood supply to ligaments being limited; therefore, healing is slow and not complete. In addition, ligaments also have many nerve endings, and when the ligaments are damaged or loose, a person can often feel pain in those areas.
The Prolozone Therapy Connection
Prolozone Therapy is a non-surgical collagen injection technique similar to Prolotherapy with the addition of ozone. Using ozone increases the joint’s rate of healing compared to traditional Prolotherapy.
Ozone is naturally occurring, made up of three atoms of oxygen, and is highly reactive. Ozone, being a highly reactive molecule, stimulates fibroblastic (or regenerative) joint repair by increasing available oxygen and nutrients to the newly forming tissue.
The collagen ozone mixture is injected into the damaged connective tissue in and around a joint. The mixture stimulates the cells’ growth and activity, which facilitates the rebuilding of the damaged areas.
Most Common Conditions Treated
- Back and neck pain – with or without degenerative disc disease
- Shoulder pain from rotator cuff injuries
- Osteoarthritis – hips, knees, and spine
- Arthritic Joints
- Tennis Elbow
- Sports injuries
- Carpal Tunnel
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Sprains and strains
Response To Prolozone Therapy
The response to treatment varies from individual to individual and depends upon one’s healing ability and severity of the condition. Some people need only one or two treatments, while others may require six or more. The injection process is repeated every 2-4 weeks until maximum improvement is noted. It may take more injections in those that have chronic long-term pain. Each situation requires an individualized protocol.
Prolozone Therapy is a safe, natural, and often permanent treatment. All the research indicates there are no side effects when properly implemented.
